Since launching my business, I have been reaching out to corporates about their wellbeing programs and ways they can support women on maternity leave - and I must say it has been a very frustrating process without much traction to date.
It is disheartening and disappointing to see the bureaucracy and red-tape that many of the humans who work for these big businesses hide behind, rather than proactively supporting mothers in the workplace.
The mothers of Australia need your support. The women of Australia, who are the future mothers, need your support. And the first step in supporting us is for everyone to wake up. To open your eyes. Because mothers are drowning in the-juggle-of-all-the-things. And society doesn’t even realise because drowning is a silent process. But we are drowning, none-the-less.
We are needed at home, birthing babies, caring and nurturing them so that they turn into good people. But we are also needed in workplaces and in leadership - leading with both intelligence and empathy. We play many integral roles within a functioning society - at work and at home. And yet our mental and physical health are suffering for it, through no fault of our own other than we are trying our best to maintain the juggle. Juggling our babies, our relationships, our careers and our livelihoods - it is overwhelming us and we suffer.
Women have had enough of the juggle and we can’t continue as is. It’s time that we pause and re-write the story for the next generation of mothers. So corporates, you’re going to have to start supporting mothers better. The status quo is not good enough.
Women need tangible and ongoing support from their employers on their journey into motherhood. So this is a call-out to create the change that we need to continue as an inclusive society, supporting women and the important roles that they juggle.
If you're a company who wants to create change and support mothers better in your workplace, please reach out so we can work together to make this happen.
